Your adventure begins with a scenic drive south from Marrakech to the charming village of Imlil – the trailhead for your ascent. As you traverse the stunning valleys of the Toubkal Massif and the serene Haouz Plain, keep an eye out for the picturesque Asni village marking the start of your climb. The landscape unfolds before you, dotted with traditional hillside villages offering glimpses into Berber life.
Upon arrival in Imlil, our expert mountain guides will greet you, ready to lead you on this incredible journey. Mules are provided to carry your luggage, allowing you to focus entirely on soaking in the breathtaking scenery. Today’s hike (5-6 hours) takes you past the historic Sidi Shamharouch shrine, where a delicious picnic lunch awaits amidst nature’s splendor.
Continue your ascent to the Toubkal Refuge, nestled high within the mountains. This day is a true test of endurance, preparing you for the summit climb ahead. Spend the night in the refuge (or under canvas during summer months), resting and rejuvenating for tomorrow’s peak experience.
Rise before dawn at 5:30 AM for a hearty breakfast, fueling up for the exhilarating climb to the summit! The route to the peak varies with the seasons – expect shorter but steeper paths in winter (approximately 3-4 hours). The ascent is generally non-technical, offering a safe yet challenging adventure suitable for climbers of all skill levels.
As you approach the summit, be mindful of a few trickier sections where extra caution is advised. Our experienced guides will expertly navigate these areas, ensuring your safety and well-being. Reaching the peak rewards you with an unparalleled 45-minute panorama – gaze out over the vast expanse of the Atlas Mountains and the charming Berber villages nestled below. (Please note: during winter months, conserve camera battery life in the cold.)
After savoring this incredible moment, we’ll descend back to the Toubkal Refuge for a well-deserved rest before retracing our steps to Imlil.
